"Mohala i ka wai ka maka o ka pua” — "Unfolded by the water are the faces of the flowers."
This Hawaiian proverb ('Olelo No'eau) is my goal as a WIML coach - to provide the "wai" (water, environment) needed to help you blossom into the beautiful creation God intended you to be when He first made you. Sometimes our flower's "face" is marred by things that have happened to and around us. But with coaching, my prayer is that God will show you the beautiful woman and also leader you were always meant to be.
This is what happened to me when I was "WIML'd" in 2020-2021! At that time, I was senior pastoring our first church plant in southern California, and I "lost myself" for a season in the demands of pastoring, especially in a pandemic. I couldn't please everyone (surprise!), I was alone much more than I preferred as an extrovert, and my "doing" for Jesus outpaced my "being" with Him. The teaching, loving coaching and precious fellowship of WIML helped me get back on track, and also discover the unique person God made me to be, including as a leader. My calling statement is particularly precious to me: "Like a protea, I grow love in hard places." A protea is a volcanic flower, and it will often appear and eventually bloom where there's no obvious soil. My ministry has most often been characterized by "going out" to hard places to reach people the world has left on its fringes with the healing love of Jesus. I can't wait to help you discern your calling statement too!

I am a graduate of the Kamehameha Schools. After college where I met my husband, I went to law school in the San Francisco Bay Area during the height of the AIDS epidemic. Upon graduating, I founded a free legal clinic for mothers and their children with HIV/AIDS in San Francisco. When my parents became ill in their late 50's, my 'ohana and I returned to Hawai'i to be with them until their premature deaths from cancer. At that time, I represented children in the foster care system. I then transitioned into ministry in my late 30's, attending Multnomah Biblical Seminary in Oregon, before becoming the Family Life Pastor at Hope Chapel in Huntington Beach California for 12 years. My husband Ed and I have been married for 38 years, and together with our grown children Kehaulani and Paul and their spouses, and a great team of friends, we launched Jesus House OC in Westminster, California in 2018. The pandemic led us to hold church in a parking lot back in Huntington Beach for 2-1/2 years. Then on the 5th anniversary of Jesus House OC, we were sent out by God to launch another Jesus House in my homeland of Hawai'i. Jesus House Hawai'i is a closely-knit group of house churches on O'ahu and Japan. I also serve as "kahu" (chaplain) for Kamehameha Schools Preschools (Na Kula Kamali'i) where I also substitute teach, and I conduct Emotionally Healthy Leader cohorts for Kamehameha Schools executives and leaders. For fun, I'm currently learning Korean drumming and dance, and my husband and I watch Korean dramas, and eat way too much rice and kimchi than recommended for our age! I look forward to serving you through WIML and meeting you at Summit!
